More about this item:

A rare piece of Chantrell prototype artwork (16"x 21" overall) for the unmade Hammer film, "The Reluctant Virgin". As documented in the book "The Hammer Vault" (2011) by Marcus Hearn, this film was originally conceived as "The Bride of Newgate Jail" (see image attached). At different times both Albert Finney & Roger Moore were attached to the project but as Hammer struggled to secure financing, both dropped out. The film was then more provocatively re-titled & Chantrell was given the job of creating suitably arresting poster artwork as presented here. In characteristic style, Chantrell focused in on the sexual connotations of the title, the swashbuckling relegated to the rear. This is a highly finished prototype piece & a genuinely rare piece of Hammer artwork for an unmade film.
