More about this item:
Original Chantrell artwork (13 1/2"x 19 1/2") for the 1961 Tony Hancock film "The Rebel", this believed to be artwork for a Trade Ad (probably Kine Weekly). This piece typifies what an inventive artist Chantrell was, employing both artwork & photographic cut-outs (i.e, Hancock's face). However, it is the photographic composition of the film title which is most interesting. Here Chantrell has used photographs of people queuing to see the film itself. The puns are also typical examples of Chantrell's clever & witty use of language.
For reference purposes we show the Quad Poster for "The Rebel". Although Chantrell was definitely responsible for the artwork for the Hancock film "The Punch & Judy Man", it is unclear whether he or Fratini is responsible for "The Rebel" Quad (Poster image courtesy of www.fiskenposter.com).
