This is a German poster (23”x 33”) for the 1963 horror spoof “The Raven” (“Der Rabe”), the film boasting a stellar cast including Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, Jack Nicholson etc. Towards the later part of his career, Chantrell undertook a number of commissions for German cinema poster designs & this is one such example, dating from the 1980's for a re-release of the film. The illustration “borrows” from the original American design as the comparison with the US 1-Sheet poster shows (image courtesy of emovieposter.com). However, Chantrell gives greater prominence to the image of the raven & also employs his characteristic bold “3-D” like pictorial image of the film title. The poster is a near mint unfolded Chantrell proof copy (one tiny edge nick only).
