Original Chantrell artwork for the 1968 Hammer adventure "The Lost Continent". This was the second Hammer feature based on a Dennis Wheatley novel ("The Devil Rides Out" being released just beforehand). This "large" budget Hammer romp was very much a Michael Carreas project, Carreaas credited as both Producer & Director (Carreas also scripted the film under the pseudonym Michael Nash). The monster special effects in the film were the responsibility of Robert Mattey who later crafted the robotic "Jaws" for Spielberg. The finished artwork shown here appears in full colour on both the stand-alone Quad & the double-bill (twinned with "Young & Eager" as shown). The double-bill Quad was printed with a lighter hue & more brash use of day-glo in the title script. A sumptuous Chantrell piece.
