More about this item:
Original Chantrell painted artwork (15"x 23 1/4") for the video cover for "The Lion Has Wings" (1939), dating c' 1987-90. "The Lion Has Wings" was one of the earliest British propaganda films. It was made documentary style & starred Ralph Richardson & Merle Oberon.
Ever the consummate commercial artist Chantrell presents a superb image of the two stars framed with searchlight tracks with a dramatic image of London ablaze in the foreground. This was obviously a case of artistic licence as the film was made in 1939 & the "blitz" didn't commence till 1940 but Chantrell used the iconic scene of Tower Bridge & the burning docks as an obvious "attention grabber".
Artwork is gouache on "Daler" artboard with a protective paper overlay.
