More about this item:
A really interesting prototype piece of artwork (20"x 25 1/2") for the Quad poster for "The Inspector", the 1962 drama about smuggling Jews into Palestine after WWII. This is a piece which shows what an inventive designer & artist Chantrell was. The artwork consists of a painted image of a gun to the centre. By removing the red tinted cellophane cover, we can see that Chantrell arranged a series of yellow celophane strips horizontally across the artboard. Once the red cellophane overlay was placed back on top, the desired image was created. Although Chantrell is known for his conventionally painted posters, he was comfortable working with photographic & other media, such as this. For the pupose of comparison, we show the finished Quad which still retains some of the features of the prototype. A fascinating piece.
