More about this item:
A great piece of original Chantrell artwork (21"x 28") for "The Dog" (1979). Released in Spanish as "El Perro" & also known as "A Dog Called .....Vengeance", the film tells the tale of a political prisoner in S. America, who escapes & is then pursued by a blood-crazed hound. Chantrell's artwork is terrific, the evil military man, snarling werewolf like dog (look at those teeth!), barbed wire & blood red background, all conspiring to set the scene perfectly. In keeping with lots of Chantrell's compositions, this is a creation that is built up with a series of painted (& pencil etched) pieces which have been overlaid onto artboard. Everything here, however, is original artwork (no photographic content).
We have been unable to locate either a Quad poster image or a VHS cover for this film, though it was clearly released elsewhere (see the image of the US 1-Sheet below courtesy of emovieposter.com). The Chantrell artwork looks to be nearly finished but the area bottom right would presumably have carried cast/credits info & it is likely that the area of blank white would also have required more work. It is possible that this was a commission that went uncompleted, possibly due to release problems in the UK but if anyone has any further insight, please let us know. Nonetheless, this is a really good example of Chantrell's exploitation poster artwork & once framed, it would look really impressive.
NB. Due to the size of this item, a supplementary P&P charge will be required.
