Within the Chantrell archive are a number of drawings on tracing paper by Chantrell, all pieces used in the composition of his Poster designs. Here is an almost complete piece clearly relating to the Hammer Poster for "The Devil Rides Out" from 1968. Though the drawing closely approximates to the central imagery on the printed Quad, it is not an exact copy ie, the raised arm on the tracing being more heavily muscled than that on the finished Quad (image of the Quad courtesy of the Richard Golen collection). The composition is approx 11" in height. A fascinating insight into the early genesis of a classic Hammer Poster.
