Original painted Chantrell artwork (20 1/4"x 26 1/4") for the video release of "The Defiant Ones" (1958), this dating from 1993. Chantrell based this composition on the 1958 American poster campaign by Gustav Rehberger as the image of the US 1-Sheet below shows (image courtesy of emovieposter.com). We are not sure if this powerful imagery was ever used. It maybe that the "Tom of Finland" type of presentation here did not find favour with the distributors. Irrespective a great example of Chantrell's artistry.
The artwork is gouache on "legion" artboard with some evidence of airbrush painting too. There is a protective paper overlay.
