More about this item:
An original artwork prototype (15"x 20") for "The Animal Lover", this believed to be an early working title for the Norman J Warren British "shocker", "Prey". The resemblance to Barry Stokes who played the cannibalistic alien in the film is striking. Chantrell changed the design for both a UK 1-Sheet & the Quad design (we show an example of the illustration on the double-bill Quad below). Though significantly toned down from the rough, the essential elements of a threatening male predator & distressed female victims remains. Whilst Hammer Studios traditional horror flicks began to struggle in the 1970's, Norman J Warren found some success in developing the genre, often using everyday settings & characters to good effect (lashings of gore & sex also helped). For more information, please see the biography http://www.screenonline.org.uk/people/id/1109079/ Chantrell was paid £130 for his work on "Prey" & the print run for the Quad poster was low, being only 250. All original memorabilia from the film is scarce & this prototype is particularly rare.
