Submarine X-1 Chantrell Video Artwork 1990

Original painted Chantrell artwork (19 3/4"x 27 3/4") for the video release of "Submarine X-1" (1968), this dating from 1990. Chantrell cleverly adapts the American poster imagery from the '68 ad campaign (see below - image courtesy of emovieposter) but this time adds torpedo trails & frames the artwork in the shape of a periscope viewer. The use of vibrant colour & the sense of drama & dynamism is typical Chantrell.

It looks like Chantrell has painted (gouache) directly onto "Daler" artboard & has then removed the upper layer of the surrounding artboard & added a cut-out rim to "frame" the artwork. There is a protective paper overlay.
