A superb piece of finished poster artwork for the 1973 Hammer film "Shatter". This is a full painted art composition on artboard (17 3/4”x 24” overall) with painted title lettering laid on top. Like "Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires", this film was another Hammer co-production with the Shaw Brothers in Hong Kong. Though the film was released in the USA (as "Call Him Mr. Shatter"), it is doubtful whether the film ever received a UK release & it is not thought that a Quad poster was ever produced for the film, making Chantrell's surviving artwork even more unique! For more information about "Shatter", please see Marcus Hearn's excellent book "The Hammer Vault" (2011) - image shown below.

This is a particularly vivid piece, full of colour & action. Chantrell incorporates "broken glass" imagery into the design, a device he frequently used with other compositions (ie, "Through the Looking Glass"). It is un-clear whether the figure of the topless girl (possibly modelled on a family member) would have slipped past the censors. Chantrell has signed the piece to the bottom rim.
