Original Chantrell painted artwork mounted on card (21"x 27 1/4" overall) relating to the drama about confused sexuality "Reflections In A Golden Eye" (1967). The film starred Hollywood superstars Elizabeth Taylor & Marlon Brando.
This is a highly unusual finished piece of artwork, signed by Chantrell along the bottom border & which was framed & hanging in his home for many years. However, it appears as if this artwork was un-used as a completely different design appears in the printed Quad (see image for reference). It is possible that Chantrell's artwork was used for a different format of UK poster or even for a Campaign Book etc but we have found no evidence of this. If Chantrell's design was overlooked, clearly the artist still rated this piece himself & arguably it was a more interesting design than that which was printed.
The artwork is gouache on card. There are pin-holes/creases to the corners so it looks like this piece was displayed prior to being framed by Chantrell. A fabulous composition & with an image of Elizabeth Taylor to rival Chantrell's wonderful depiction of the Ms Taylor in "Cleopatra" (1963).
