Original painted Chantrell artwork (24"x 32 1/2" overall) for the UK Quad poster for "Private Vices & Public Virtues" (1976). This Italian film shot in Croatia by Miklos Janscso was hugely controversial at the time, the historical drama essentially being an interestingly set non-stop orgy. Chantrell was unabashed about featuring copious nudity but as Sim Branaghan ("British Film Posters") says "The artfully scattered rose petals were added later, to cover up the naughty bits". Chantrell was clearly happy with this composition as not only did he sign the painting but he had this artwork framed & hanging in his home. The painting consists of gouache on artboard, the only cut-out additions being the printed text. The artboard was subsequently laid onto black card for the purpose of framing (this can be removed to make transit easier). There is a little marking to the text but the painting is in fine condition.
