Private Pleasures Chantrell Quad Poster Artwork 1976

Original Chantrell finished artwork (22"x 26") for the UK Quad poster for the Swedish sex-drama "Private Pleasures" (1976). The only difference between this & the printed Quad is that the film title was arranged on one line at the bottom of the poster (this text carried on an acetate overlay). The film was noteworthy for the presence of British actress Mary Maxted (aka Mary Millington) in a lesbian scene in the last 10 minutes. This section obviously caught Chantrell's attention as this is the scene he depicts in the tender embrace.

This is an unusual Chantrell painting in that it has been executed using pastels rather than Chantrell's usual gouache. The pastel composition is on a piece of card which has been affixed to "Legion" artboard. The "invitation card" on the left-hand side is a separate cut-out. The film text is painted onto an acetate overlay (slight loss of text) & there is a further protective paper overlay too. Chantrell has signed the artwork.
