This is a Chantrell tracing paper design (15"x 20") relating to a 1980's video poster illustration (please see an image of the finished artwork for comparison). After receiving a poster commission, Chantrell would frequently stage preliminary poses with models (or members of his own family), scour reference books from libraries & sketch preliminary ideas onto tracing paper. All this work was done prior to "roughs" being created & well before finished artwork was produced. Turnaround for most poster projects was usually about one week. Chantrell illustrated several "Marilyn Monroe" posters, including most memorably "Bus Stop" (1956) which is shown here for reference (image courtesy of www.fiskenposter.com)
