Finished UK Quad poster artwork (20 1/2"x 27 1/2") by Chantrell for "Mardi Gras" (1958). This is one of the earlier pieces of Chantrell artwork we have on the site. A typical 50's composition reflecting the happy, light-hearted nature of this teen musical set in New Orleans (see below for an image of the Quad poster currently being offered on http://www.moviepostermem.com/Mardi-Gras-Poster/55812). Chantrell presents some characteristic photo-realist images of the young cast set off against a black backdrop onto which he has added a series of caricature impressions.

The artwork is gouache on card which has been affixed to another layer of card. The composition includes various painted cut-out add-ons, plus some printed script for cast/credits. The film title is painted & Chantrell has signed the piece on lower right. There is a paper overlay for protection.
