More about this item:

A large piece of prototype artwork (18 1/2"x 25"), mostly photographic, mounted onto board for this taught WWI British made drama. Chantrell's design pulls no punches presenting a scene of graphic horror. The red/white/blue title lettering provides an ironic comment on the wisdom of the officer class who conducted the war & the blind loyalty & patriotism of the men who fought in the trenches. Given Chantrell's own beliefs (he was a conscientious objector in WWII though served for several years in Bomb Disposal), it is likely that he took a very particular interest in this design. The eventual Quad poster (image courtesy of was considerably toned down though the photo images of the main characters down one side was retained.

NB. Given the size of this piece, a separate shipping quote will be required.
