More about this item:
A fascinating piece of Chantrell artwork on art board (14 3/4"x 20"), this being a prototype for the unmade Hammer Film "Kali Devil Bride Of Dracula", c' 1975-76 (see Maxford "Hammer House of Horror" 1996). This project was one of many that Hammer's Michael Carreras endeavoured to kick-start in the mid 1970's in order to revive Hammer's failing fortunes. As is well known (see Marcus Hearn's "The Art Of Hammer" 2010) Hammer frequently commissioned Poster mock-ups to use in pitches for finance for their Films & Chantrell was frequently used by Hammer for these projects (a curious case of the Posters actually "driving" the Films themselves). This artwork was obviously created for a project of this sort but it is likely that this is one of several trial pieces that Chantrell produced. Of interest to both fans of Chantrell & Hammer alike.
