This is the finished Chantrell artwork for the Brazilian erotic drama "Giselle" (1980). A curious piece, we show the artwork (15 1/2"x 19" overall) both with & without the acetate overlay. The background seascape is a photographic image. Pasted on top is the suggestive image of the woman. Although this piece was originally painted artwork, the pasted on image is a photo of the artwork which has subsequently been touched in with small & delicate hand painted tints. This was a technique that Chantrell sometimes used when composing such pieces. For the purpose of comparison, we show the finished Quad poster too. Chantrell was paid a total of £200 on the rough & finished art for this poster, the relatively low sum reflecting the heavy reliance of photographic imagery in the design.
