Darwin Adventure Chantrell Final Artwork 1972

The finished artwork (19"x 25") for the Quad poster for "The Darwin Adventure" (1972). Chantrell's composition presents a typically strong film title. In a nice touch too, Chantrell includes images of a skull and a chimp on the lead character's tunic, this being a reference to the central theme of "evolution". Sold with the artwork is an original 12"x 15" b/w photo of the artwork, this used in the production process. Although we have more concept artwork "The Darwin Adventure" represents one of the few remaining finished pieces of artwork left in the Chantrell archive.

The artwork consists of gouache painting on artboard with the film title presented in day-glo cut-out card. The ship bottom left has also been added as a painted cut-out and the text bottom right has been applied in strips. The text top right is carried on a tracing paper overlay & Chantrell has annotated instructions to both the overlay and to the right rim of the finished artwork. This is a rare piece.
