This fascinating item is an original large sized b/w photo (19"x 24") of Chantrell's original prototype artwork for the 1970 Hammer film "Crescendo". Although clearly a powerful & intriguing design, this never translated into a poster format, an alternative & simpler Chantrell design being used (see below). It is possible that when the decision was taken to premiere "Crescendo" as part of a double-bill with "Taste the Blood of Dracula", a style more complimentary with Chantrell's "Taste.." artwork was required. By adopting the dripping blood motif of "Taste.." to the new "Crescendo" design, Chantrell achieved this admirably. It is interesting, however, to note that Chantrell re-used the image of the reclining nude figure in the foreground here later in the poster design for "Terror" (1978).
