More about this item:

Rare printed flyer (8 1/2"x 10 1/4") showing Chantrell's artwork for the un-made Hammer film "A Scent of New-Mown Hay" (c' 1971).

Based on a book by John Blackburn, the mooted film featured a Cold War setting & a deadly virus that transforms females into mutant beings. Chantrell's visualisation shows the mutation in process....& in typical fashion (for both Chantrell & Hammer) the prototype presents some OTT nudity (that would never have been allowed on any kind of General Release material).

Almost uniquely amongst British cinema poster artists, Chantrell was employed to provide pre-production artwork for prospective films (specifically for Hammer Studios). This artwork was used both to secure funding for prospective productions & once finance was in place, Chantrell's artwork was used to generate pre-release publicity too.

Flyer with some minor corner damage.

Like everything sold on this site, a letter stating this item came from Chantrell's own collection will be provided.
