More about this item:
The story of Chantrell's banned artwork for "Carry on Cleo" is well-known (Chantrell parodied Terpning's poster design for Fox studios 1963 "Cleopatra", Fox sued, Chantrell ended up in Court & Chantrell's design was pulled). Marketing material presenting the image of Amanda Barrie reclining a la Liz Taylor were destroyed & few such pieces have survived. Chantrell re-designed his Quad poster & the UK Campaign Book also had the "offending" imagery heavily adapted (see below). However, Chantrell was clearly fond of his spoof & he kept a cover from the withdrawn Campaign Book & mounted it on card, as shown. This piece measures 13 1/2"x 18" & would look great framed. This is a rare piece of original "Cleo" memorabilia.
A couple of nicks to upper edge, one which Chantrell has coloured in.
