A Farewell To Arms Chantrell Quad Artwork

A relatively early piece of Chantrell artwork for the Quad Poster for the 1957 film "A Farewell To Arms". Based on the Hemingway novel, the film pitched Rock Hudson & Jennifer Jones into a romantic drama set against the horrors of WWI. The artwork shows Chantrell's ability to provide facial depictions of almost photographic quality. Ever the commercial artist, however, Chantrell ensures that aside from the romantic clinch, there is plenty of action & movement in the background. The peculiar shaping of the artwork was purposeful, Chantrell creating the piece with a view to the later positioning of the text (please see an example of the finished Quad Poster courtesy of http://www.moviepostermem.com/). The bold title script provides a consummate finishing touch.
